About Us

The Locksmiths Guild of Australia (LGA) is an incorporated trade association for locksmiths that aims to support its members in all aspects of operating their business. The Guild prides itself in the active involvement of its locksmiths members to promote and develop the craft of locksmithing through cooperation, mutual education and the exchange of knowledge and ideas. The Guild plays a further role by representing the interests of our locksmith members in dealing with suppliers and regulatory and/or legislative bodies. Together with our members we aim to ensure that our members maintain the highest possible ethical standards.

The Locksmiths Guild of Australia Inc. (LGA) is leading the way in the craft of locksmithing with their Certified Practising Locksmith Programme (CPL). Certified Practising Locksmiths have demonstrated that they have appropriate trade and other training, trade experience, involvement in the Guild activities and the locksmith community generally to be able to provide the best customer service available.

Joining the Locksmiths Guild provides the professional locksmith with many benefits. Membership of the Locksmiths Guild of Australia (LGA) is open to all locksmiths who currently work in the locksmithing trade, are of good repute, are licensed under applicable State laws, and agree to abide by the constitution and rules set down by the Locksmiths Guild of Australia.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships

To become a qualified locksmith, you must complete a locksmith apprenticeship. The off-the-job training associated with the apprenticeship is available through TAFE. As an apprentice or trainee you are paid to do a job and learn new skills at the same time. The nominal term of an apprenticeship is four years.
